The Harlingen Police Department is giving back to the community. This week Chief Mike Kester presented checks to the Humane Society of Harlingen, Make a Wish RGV, and Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

The money was raised during the 5th Annual Run/Walk with the Heroes-RGV 2019 event held in October.

The check presentation was done during the December 4, 2019, meeting of the Harlingen City Commission who thanked the nonprofits for their commitment to the community and the outstanding work they do.

Make a Wish RGV, founded in 1997 received a check for $7,000. Make a Wish serves the six southernmost counties in the state and realizes wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Driscoll Children’s Hospital, the only free standing children’s hospital in South Texas also received a check for $7,000 while the Humane Society of Harlingen received a check for $2000 to help with daily operations in providing homes and care for animals while they wait to be adopted.

Chief Kester also recognized all the sponsors and participants who helped make this such a successful event that allowed them to expand the number of benefiting entities.
