Astros Collin McHugh Goes Full Matrix To Dodge Line Drive: Video

HOUSTON — Baseball is not a sport that often trumpets athleticism and cat-like reflexes in its players, but the moves displayed by Houston Astros pitcher Collin McHugh in Tuesday nights game in Oakland have a lot of people talking.

The Astros had an early 3-0 lead in the second inning when McHugh delivered a fastball to Oakland A’s Kendry Morales, who smacked a line drive back toward the mound and McHugh.

Displaying uncanny awareness and some cool Matrix-like moves, McHugh bent over backwards to avoid a serious injury as Morales' line drive whiffed past his face and scooted over his neck.

McHugh fell to the mound and watched as the ball bounced to second base to ensure a double play to end the inning.

Morales was called out on the double play, the Astros went back to bat, and people were still talking about McHugh’s smooth ninja-esque moves.

Many compared his artful dodge to the 1999 Matrix movie, where Keanu Reeves AKA Neo, dodges a hail of bullets in similar fashion. Of course, Neo didn’t fall and McHugh did, but it was still cool.

Despite McHugh’s agility, the Astros continued being the hottest team in baseball winning their 10th straight game in a 9-1 romp of the A’s. They will play game two of the short series Wednesday in Oakland.
