Child Hospitalized After Struck By Ball At Astros Game

HOUSTON, TX — A child was hospitalized Wednesday evening after he or she was struck by a ball during the fourth inning. The child was struck after Albert Almora hit a foul ball. Almora's reaction to the child getting hit was captured in the following tweet:

The Astros released the following statement around 10 p.m. Wednesday:

"We are not able to to disclose any further details at this time. The Astros send our thoughts and prayers to the entire family."

The Astros installed additional netting at Minute Maid Park two years ago that stretch from dugout to dugout, reaching 12 feet in height, and increasing the height behind the backstop, reaching a maximum height of 32 feet, the team reported on Feb. 15. 2017. Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant doesn't think this is enough to protect fans in Houston and at other ballparks around the country, according to a tweet from ESPN reporter Jeff Passan.
