Harris County DA Holding Criminal Charge Amnesty on Aug. 27

The Harris County DA's office is holding an amnesty event on Aug. 27.

HOUSTON, TX — Got an outstanding Class C or other low-level, non-violent misdemeanor warrant? The Harris County District Attorney's Office has a deal for you.

On Saturday, Aug. 27, The DA's office — along with the Harris County Public Defender's Office and the Harris County Precincts 2 and 8 constable's offices — will hold a one-day amnesty.

The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Sagemont Church,11300 South Sam Houston Parkway East, in Houston.

The program is designed to help people with unresolved warrants for low-level, nonviolent misdemeanor offenses.

The goal is to provide these individuals with an opportunity to “make things right” for themselves by getting their outstanding warrants removed and their pending cases resolved in a non-traditional and non-confrontational manner, with no immediate financial cost and no risk of arrest.

Eligible area residents will have the opportunity to get on-site bilingual assistance, as well as free legal advice from volunteer defense lawyers, to clear up warrants and cases. Along with criminal cases, the legal advice will various civil matters including: landlord/tenant issues, immigration, child support and civil rights.

There will also be a career resource fair with job training, workshops on educational opportunities and several food truck vendors.
