Houston Feels Impact From Outer Bands Of Tropical Storm Barry

Houston will experience some gusty winds and isolated storms from Tropical Storm Barry, forecasters said

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston area is a long way from the eye of Tropical Storm Barry, but forecasters predict windy conditions and isolated showers this evening. Hurricane Barry made landfall at around 1 p.m. on Saturday, and weakened to a Tropical Storm. The center was over Intracoastal City, Louisiana, when it hit land.

The storm is moving northwest at six miles per hour and dumping enormous amounts of rain over southeast and eastern Louisiana

The storm may result in 10 to 20 inches of rain in parts of southeast Louisiana and southwest Mississippi, with isolated amounts up to 25 inches, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is projected to continue moving slowly northwest into areas of Missouri over the next 12 hours according to the National Hurricane Center.

The City of Houston has begun collecting items to help those in Tropical Storm Barry's path. On Friday, the City opened the Houston Relief Hub to prepare to take in donations of non-perishable food, bottled water, and cleaning supplies that will be needed after the storm passes through the region on Monday.
