It's alleged that the duo really liked J.C. Penny's and would often visit multiple stores in a single day. Rodriguez allegedly had a special tool — which could be anything from a $13 magnetic tag remover to a $165 removal gun — to undo the security tags.
Although he didn't really need a special tool, those tags come off with rubber bands. Once they got the tags off the jeans, Rodriguez and Del Angel would head over to the Sunny Flea Market on Airline to sell the pants.
