The victims were rapping on the patio of their apartment when three unknown suspects, described only as Asian males, approached them. The two groups then engaged in a "rap battle" across the wooden fence that enclosed the patio. As the "rap battle" went on, tensions started to escalate.

At some point one of the groups started a fight involving knives and broken beer bottles. Following the fight, the suspects fled the scene in an unknown condition.
