Houston School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Houston is August 28. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Houston Independent School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

August

• 8/14 - 8/24: Teacher Service Days
• 8/25: Teacher Preparation Day
• 8/28: First Day of School

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)
• 9/21: Early Dismissal
• 9/22: No School for Students (Teacher Service Day)

October

• 10/20: Early Dismissal

November

• 11/10: Early Dismissal
• 11/20 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving)

December

• 12/22: No School for Students (Teacher Preparation Day)
• 12/25 - 1/5: No School (Winter Break)

January

• 1/1 - 1/5: No School (Winter Break)
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
• 1/26: Early Dismissal

February

• 2/23: Early Dismissal

March

• 3/12 - 3/16: No School (Spring Break)
• 3/30: No School (Spring Holiday)

May

• 5/28: No School (Memorial Day)

June

• 6/1: Last Day of School for Students
• 6/4: Last Day of School for Teachers (Preparation Day)
