HOUSTON, TX — An off-duty Waller County Sheriff’s Deputy working in the Galleria area, shot a man he claims pointed a gun at him.
Investigators with the Houston Police Department said the deputy was working security and conducting traffic near Post Oak Blvd and W. Alabama Street at about 2 am, when a man driving an SUV pulled into the intersection and stopped.
Investigators said the officer claimed the man put his head down and appeared to have fallen asleep, the Houston Chronicle reported..

The deputy walked over to the car and tapped on the window, investigators said.
The deputy told investigators that the man looked up at him, and then reached for a gun and pointed it at him.

The deputy pulled his weapon and fired several times at the driver, who drove off.
A short time later, the driver who was shot in the hand, called 911 for an ambulance, KTRK reported.
He is expected to recover.
No charges have been filed, and the shooting is under investigation.
