Medicaid to Pay for Mosquito Repellent for Zika Protection
Texas Medicaid will pay for mosquito repellent to protect women against the Zika virus.

AUSTIN, TX — Texas Medicaid will pay for mosquito repellent for women 10-45 years old or pregnant. Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner Charles Smith announced the decision as a response to the possibility of local transmission of the Zika virus.
So far the 28 cases of the Zika virus that have been confirmed in the Houston area have been travel related. The announcement comes after some promising news on the Zika front, a biotech firm in The Woodlands is working on a vaccine and UTMB researchers in Galveston identified multiple already available treatments that show promise in fighting the disease.
