North Shore Defeats Duncanville 41-36 For State 6A Championship

The North Shore Mustangs ended their perfect season with 41-36 win in the State High School Football championship in Arlington on Saturday.

ARLINGTON, TX — The North Shore Mustangs ended their amazing 2018 season with "the catch" that cemented the 6A State Championship as one for the ages. The Mustangs Dematrius Davis launched a 45-yard Hail Mary A.J. Carter as time expired, giving North Shore a 41-36 victory over Duncanville at AT&T Stadium.

The win was North Shore's third state championship win since 2003, but this one will cement the Mustangs in Texas high school football lore, with the catch that won it in 2018.

But it was a win that nearly escaped the Mustangs, when Duncanville scored what looked like the winning touchdown with 1:02 left in the game.

North Shore managed to drive to Duncanville's 45-yard line, and with just three seconds left and down 36-35, magic happened for the Mustangs.

The result was much different for two other Houston teams playing state championship games this weekend.

On Friday, the Marshall Buffaloes lost their bid for the 5A Division II crown to the Aledo Bearcats 55-19, and on Saturday, the Shadow Creek Sharks lost the 5A Division I State championship 27-17 to the Highland Park Scots.

The 6A championship was close all night with Duncanville playing solid football, and giving a total team effort that nearly snatched the state crown.
