President Obama Commutes Four Houston Criminals' Sentences

On Tuesday, Aug. 30, President Obama commuted the sentences of 111 criminals, four of them were from Houston.

HOUSTON, TX — On Tuesday, Aug. 30, President Obama commuted the sentences of 111 federal inmates, among those were four inmates from Houston.

Corey Blount and Ronald Blount Jr., brothers, were convicted in 1999 of running a drug ring that stretched from Houston to south Louisiana. The conspiracy involved the Blount brothers as well as four of their uncles.

Both Corey and Ronald Jr. got life imprisonment. President Obama commuted Corey's sentence to 30 years while Ronald Jr. will be released on Dec. 28.

Warren Dean Cornett was convicted in 1998 for possessing more than five kilograms of cocaine and more than 50 grams of cocaine base with intent to distribute. Cornett' received life imprisonment, he'll also be on the streets on Dec. 28.

Daivd Gonzalez was convicted in 2004 for conspiring to distribute more than 50 grams of cocaine base, aiding and abetting the distribution of more than five grams or more of cocaine base, aiding and abetting the possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base. Gonzalez was sentenced to 20 years. He'll be out on May 31, 2017.
