Public Viewing, Memorial Set For George Floyd In Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A public viewing and memorial for George Floyd — the 46-year-old who died after an arrest by Minneapolis police on Memorial Day — will take place in Houston next week, according to attorneys reprtesenting Floyd's family.
Floyd was a Houston native who moved to Minnesota several years ago in hopes of finding work and starting a new life. Details for Floyd's public viewing and memorial are below:

Floyd's death has sparked protests against police brutality across the nation, with the demonstrations turning violent and contentious as protesters and police clash. Cities across the country have initiated curfews in an effort to stop looting that has taken place late into the night following largely peaceful protests.
On Monday, Floyd's brother Terrence Floyd called for peace, saying that looting and riots would not bring his brother back.

Floyd's death was ruled a homicide by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner on Monday. The officer — Derek Chauvin — seen kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
