Road and Utility Work To Begin in Downtown Humble

Residential Areas in Downtown Humble could be impacted by construction in upcoming weeks

HUMBLE, TX — Downtown is about to get busy with construction. The city of Humble is rolling out the first stages of its 2016 Concrete Pavement Improvement Project.

Although the project is underway, residents won't begin to feel the impact for a few more weeks.

The first improvement that will be undertaken is the installation of a public parking area and sidewalk near the intersection of North Avenue D and Hermann Street by contractors from Triple B Services and ARKK Engineers.

The lion's share of the $6-$7 million set aside for the project will fund construction in Benders subdivision section two.

The area is a 0.75 square-mile part of Old Humble — bordered by FM 1960 Business/First Street East on the south, Seventh Street on the north, Charles Street on the west and North Houston Avenue/Old Humble Road/South Houston Avenue on east.

Neighborhood residents can expect to see contractors repaving the streets, upgrading them to six-inch thick concrete with curbs, and adding new water and sanitary sewer lines.

The scope of work also calls for the installation of drainage curb inlets and the widening and standardization of driveways throughout the neighborhood.

Attempts will be made to minimize the disruption to residents' daily routines. Any suspension of water or utility services will be preceded by a 48-hour notice, and will primarily be done during normal business hours.

If a lawn sprinkler system has to be removed, it will be replaced at no cost to the resident. All attempts will be made to continue mail delivery and trash pickup as normal.

However, residents will experience temporary detours and limited alternate side of the street parking.

Along with repairs to residential streets in Old Humble, the Concrete Pavement Improvement Project will pay for a laundry list of upgrades throughout Humble's city limits.

The Isaacks Road and Wilson Road intersection will get new traffic lights and about 560 feet of new sanitary sewer will be installed along South Memorial Drive.

Around 1,400 feet of new sidewalk will be installed along Memorial Glenn Drive from Old Humble Road to Glenn Hollow Drive.

About 1,200 feet of water line will be installed along Hirsch Road from Fm 1960 Business/First Street East to East Main Street.

Since the work is subject to weather delays, the time frame for completion is pretty fluid. However, the contract between Triple B and the city runs until May 2018.
