Dimitrios Pagourtzis: 5 Things About Accused School Shooter

Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old student, has been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault on a police officer.

SANTA FE, TX - Texas investigators are still piecing together a motive in the school shooting at Santa Fe High School that left 10 dead and 10 wounded. Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old student at the school, has been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Here are five things to know about Pagourtzis:

Pagourtzis was armed with a shotgun and a .38 revolver that were legally owned by his father, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbot. The governor said it was not known if the father was aware the guns had been taken. Unlike the accused shooter in the Parkland, Florida school shooting, Abbott said that there were no warning signs of the attack from Pagourtzis. A "red flag warning was non-existent or very imperceptible," Abbott said. Pagourtzis is not known to have a criminal record.

Pagourtzis had intended to commit suicide, but instead surrendered to police, the governor said. Abbott said there also were "one or two other people of interest," who were being interviewed by police.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office shared photographs found on the accused gunman's Facebook page of a T-shirt that said “Born to Kill.”

The accused gunman frequently wore a trench coat to school, according to multiple reports. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said at the press conference that the shooter was hiding a shotgun underneath a trench coat when he walked onto campus. Patrick said if the school had more resource officers then someone would have found it weird to be wearing a trench coat in 90 degree weather.

Pagourtzis played on the high school's junior varsity football team during his freshman year at Santa Fe High. He was praised on a school website for his play on the defensive line in 2016 during a game against a rival team.
