City Of Irving: Delays Continue For Brush/Bulky Waste, Recycling Collections Through Summer

As a result, residents will continue to experience collection delays delays throughout the summer.

June 3, 2021

The City of Irving Solid Waste Services Department is experiencing a staffing shortage that has impacted all collection services, including trash, brush and bulky, and recycling. The city’s staffing issues correlate with a depleted workforce affecting markets across the United States. Irving is proactively recruiting to fill the necessary positions to maintain the high level of solid waste collection services residents have come to expect; however, at this point, the team does not have the people available to keep up with the demand. The February winter storm and resulting brush and bulk debris have compounded the issue.

Alternative Drop-Off Opportunity

The city understands that many residents may be planning home remodeling projects, get togethers with friends and family, and other activities throughout the summer that can impact the waste left at the curb. If trash, recycling or brush/bulky collection is delayed during any week this summer, residents are encouraged to either:

  • Store trash and recycling materials until the next collection day.
  • Drop off brush and bulky waste materials, household waste and recycling at the Hunter Ferrell Landfill, 110 E. Hunter Ferrell Road. Disposal drop off times are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Drop-off availability is for residents only, and individuals are required to show proof of residency.

The city recognizes that this is not an ideal solution, but would rather be transparent about the issue so residents can adjust and enjoy the summer. The City of Irving thanks residents for their patience and understanding while the department works to resume normal operations as soon as possible.
