Irving Teacher Arrested For Indecency With A Child
Police said the teacher was already being investigated for reports of unwanted contact with students.

IRVING, TX – A middle school music teacher was arrested Monday after a student reported being touched inappropriately by him.
Edmund Charles Barrera, 50, was a music teacher at Lee Britain Elementary School located at 631 Edmundson Drive in Irving. Police say he was already under investigation for three reports of unwanted contact with students.
Per the investigation, Barrera was removed from the classroom on May 9.

The district told the Dallas Morning News at the time that they were cooperating with the investigation.
"The safety of our students and staff are our top priority, and we take all allegations seriously," the district told The News.

Police said the investigation turned up other reports of sexual contact, and Barrera was arrested after a 10-year-old girl said the teacher had repeatedly touched her through the clothing.
Barrera was booked into Irving Jail on a charge of Indecency with a Child and $50,000 bail.
Police encourage parents to discuss inappropriate contact with their children. Any parent who fears a child was touched inappropriately is encouraged to contact police at 972-273-1010.
