• George J. & Effie L. Seay Foundation (insidephilanthropy.com) — Abingdon’s William King Museum of Art is one of just three recent arts grantees of the George J. & Effie L. Seay Foundation, making this funder especially relevant for local nonprofits. The Richmond-based foundation offers $5,000–$20,000 grants for arts, education, and human services across Virginia, with applications due March 1 through Bank of America’s philanthropic portal.

• CEO arrested abroad, indicted in VA; charged with introducing adulterated devices and unapproved drug into commerce (wvva.com) — A federal grand jury sitting in Abingdon has indicted the CEO of an Arizona-based skincare company on dozens of fraud and product‑safety charges tied to allegedly unapproved devices and a new drug. The defendant, arrested abroad and returned to face charges in the Western District of Virginia, has appeared in court and remains presumed innocent while the case proceeds.

• State, local officials discuss community's water quality  concerns (timesnews.net) — Abingdon’s regional Office of Drinking Water is reassuring nearby Scott County and Gate City residents that public water systems are meeting safety standards, even as locals worry about a possible childhood cancer cluster. The field office detailed extensive, routine testing for contaminants and offered to help residents learn proper sampling methods, while Gate City officials emphasized transparency and invited the public to ask questions about their water.
