The defendant, arrested abroad and returned to face charges in the Western District of Virginia, has appeared in court and remains presumed innocent while the case proceeds.
   

• State, local officials discuss community's water quality  concerns (timesnews.net) — Abingdon’s regional Office of Drinking Water is reassuring nearby Scott County and Gate City residents that public water systems are meeting safety standards, even as locals worry about a possible childhood cancer cluster. The field office detailed extensive, routine testing for contaminants and offered to help residents learn proper sampling methods, while Gate City officials emphasized transparency and invited the public to ask questions about their water.
