The sheriff’s office had asked residents to watch for the girls and report any tips, underscoring how closely Bassett and nearby communities work together when local youth may be in danger.
   

• Fire crews battled window seal fire; no injuries reported (wset.com) — A recent house fire in Bassett that left one person dead is referenced in coverage of a separate, less serious blaze in Fries, where no injuries were reported and damage was contained to a window area. Fire crews credit quick work and assistance from Galax Fire Department for keeping the Fries incident minor, while investigators say an ember from a chimney likely sparked that fire.
