• Fire department responds after carbon monoxide leak at Bedford retirement home (wdbj7.com) — Residents at a Bedford retirement home were safely evacuated Thursday after firefighters found dangerously high carbon monoxide levels in one wing of the Spring Oak at Bedford–The Elks Home. Crews ventilated the building, worked with maintenance staff to fix the boiler issue, and fully resolved the leak within four hours, with no injuries reported.
   

• Poplar Forest to house decades-old historic copy of Declaration of Independence (wset.com) — Poplar Forest in Bedford County will soon display a rare 1818 engraved copy of the Declaration of Independence, on loan from board members Benjamin and Jenna Marchi. Beginning January 10, 2026, visitors can view the historic document in Thomas Jefferson’s dining room as part of Virginia’s lead-up to the Declaration’s 250th anniversary.
