The Nysmith School began over 32 years ago when founder Carole Nysmith decided to begin a kindergarten through second grade program to feed into Fairfax County’s gifted and talented program. Carole had taught in Fairfax County’s GT program for many years and noticed need for a similar program for younger children. Even in its first year the school integrated daily science and technology in addition to a diversified curriculum for reading and math. The school began to 55 students who were overwhelmingly from Reston. The school currently serves over 550 students from three years old through eighth grade from all over the World. Families commute from as far as Bethesda Maryland and Arlington County for their children to attend the school.
