1 Year Ago: Body Found Identified as Fairfax City Teen, Police Say

Sept. 30, 2014: Body of missing teen discovered near train tracks in Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, according to police.

A year ago, a heartbreaking discovery stunned the community when a much-loved teen was found deceased. Cara Lynn Golias was a highly accomplished junior at Fairfax High School. Her death and others in the county prompted Fairfax County Public Schools to increase its attention to the mental health of its students.

The body found in Hemlock Overlook Regional Park on Monday afternoon is a Fairfax City teen last seen Sunday, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The body of Cara Lynn Golias, 16, was found near the railroad bridge trestle in the 13200 block of Yates Ford Road in the Hemlock Overlook Regional Park at around 1 p.m. Monday.

A cause and manner of death have not been determined, but detectives say criminal activity is not suspected.

Golias was last seen Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of Manassas Park Middle School. She is believed to have voluntarily left that area by walking through nearby woods which were initially searched by Manassas Park City and Prince William County Police officers.
