FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Lydia Lee and her father couldn’t find a Japanese restaurant in Fairfax that met their culinary needs, so they decided to create one instead.

In April, father and daughter opened Sushi Friends Hashi at the intersection of Jermantown Road and Main Street in the Kamp Washington.

“They set out to create a unique dining experience to meet their vision, and a restaurant that inspired people to travel from all over the DMV to the City of Fairfax to experience Sushi Hashi,” said Nancy Kim, director of operations for the restaurant. “We chose the City of Fairfax for its centralized location, supportive government and hungry residents."

"We are very excited that you did choose the City of Fairfax, and that you are adding to a wonderfully diverse community of family-owned, independent restaurants," said Jennifer Rose, executive director of the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. "We're we're going to be eating in Japan when we walk through these doors, right? It's gorgeous. It's beautiful. I love that you want to be a part of the community."

At its heart, Sushi Hashi is a family-run business, Kim said, explaining that the word “Hashi” in Japanese means chopsticks.

“It can mean a bridge and it can mean an edge,” she said. “We believe here in the City of Fairfax, we can push the culinary edge of Japanese cuisine, create a bridge from the City of Fairfax to Japan, all while enjoying your meal with chopsticks.”
