Assistance League Provides Grocery Cards, Clothing and Books

The caring and committed members of Assistance League of Northern Virginia have been very busy over the past few weeks. The charity again delivered 400 $20 grocery gift cards to the families at the six schools that it had served with its Weekend Food for Kids program. The hard-working counselors at these schools who distribute the cards regularly relay the deep gratitude of the families and report that this support continues to be impactful for them. The organization has distributed nearly 5,500 gift cards over the past year.

Assistance League suspended in-person tutoring and instead has focused its Literacy for Kids efforts on providing new books. Earlier this month, the chapter delivered quilt-and-book packages to an additional school for use with its Headstart/Pre-K students. Many thanks to Mclean Quilters Unlimited for donating these beautiful hand-made creations.

As part of its New Clothing for Kids program, Assistance League delivered a large number of new clothes, including boy’s pants, shorts, and underwear to one of the 11 schools it serves, and an assortment of boys and girls T-shirts, shirts, sweat pants and leggings to a second school.
