Basement Fire Damages Fairfax Station House
Two firefighters are injured as the blaze displaces the home's three occupants.

FAIRFAX STATION, VA — Investigators with the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department are working to determine the cause of a Friday morning blaze that damaged a Fairfax Station house. The fire, which started in the basement, displaced the single-family home's three occupants and caused about $25,000 in damage, the fire department said.
Firefighters responded at 7:26 a.m. Friday to the fire at the two-story home in the 10600 block of Timberidge Road, near Fountainhead Regional Park. As the units arrived, they spotted smoke coming from the roof and called in a tanker truck to bring in more water.
The fire crew quickly located the fire in the home's basement and extinguished it, the fire department said.

Two people were home Friday morning, and one of them discovered the fire when they awoke to the smell of smoke. They both fled the house before firefighters arrived, according to the fire department.
None of the occupants was injured, but two firefighters sustained injuries, the fire department said. One was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and the other was treated at the scene.
