Blankets To Keep Outdoor Diners Warm At Fairfax City Restaurants

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Fairfax City’s Economic Development Authority, with support from the city’s Economic Development Office, is providing restaurants with blankets to keep their customers warm as they dine outside.

The goal of the program is to create outdoor dining experiences that attract customers to local restaurants during the cooler months. It is a continuation of the Fairfax City Winter Preparedness Initiative micro-grant program.

“The Winter in Fairfax City blanket campaign offers the community an opportunity to continue outdoor dining in a safe, creative and comfortable way,” Danette Nguyen, assistant director of the city Economic Development Office, said Tuesday in a statement.

Using funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, the Economic Development Authority purchased blankets and is providing them to city restaurants at no cost to promote outdoor dining.

The restaurants can offer customers the option to purchase a blanket to keep warm while dining out. Blankets will be available at 20 Fairfax City restaurants and will retail for $20 each with participating restaurants retaining the proceeds.

After purchasing a blanket, customers will receive a free hot beverage of either coffee, tea, or hot chocolate and when they return for another outdoor dining experience with their blanket, they will receive an additional free hot beverage. This promotion is designed to promote visits to local restaurants and to encourages return visits.

“Fairfax City is committed to supporting the restaurants that make up a critically important part of our City’s fabric,” Nguyen said. “We invite residents and visitors alike to dine out and support local all winter long.”
