As a slow moving trough of low pressure approaches the region, the potential for severe thunderstorms/flooding exists next week.
The Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center, 3740 Old Lee Highway, will be open as a cooling center from 1-8 p.m. this week, when the heat is predicted to be at its highest. Please remember to implement safe health practices (social distancing and mask-wearing) as appropriate.

The Heat Index is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. As an example, if the air temperature is 96°F and the relative humidity is 65 percent, the heat index — how hot it feels — is 121°F.
Remember: many public buildings, including libraries and community centers, can serve as cooling centers. Be sure to check the facility website or call the facility to confirm access and hours.
