City Flags to Be Lowered to Half-Staff Honoring William Roeder

Former city attorney passed away earlier this week. Service information included.

William F. “Bud” Roeder, Jr., former city attorney, passed away on Tuesday, January 6. The city mourns his passing, and will lower its flag to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on January 9 in his honor.

Mr. Roeder served as city attorney from 1978 to 2005.

The Chattanooga, Tenn. native earned his bachelor’s degree from University of the South in 1964 and his J.D. degree from University of Virginia School of Law in 1967.

Roeder served as a president of the Fairfax Bar Association from 1978-79 and was on the bar association’s board of directors from 1977-80. He also was a member of the American Bar Association and held multiple roles with the Virginia State Bar, including chairman of the Board of Governors from 1994-95. He was recognized by the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and by the Virginia Business “Legal Elite” in 2001.
