Fairfax City Mayor Scott Silverthorne Announces Run for Third Term
Just days before, Silverthorne was happily given a "cancer-free" diagnosis from his oncologist after battling squamous cell carcinoma.

Fairfax City Mayor Scott Silverthorne kicked off his campaign this past week to try and win a third two-year term as the city's mayor.
Silverthorne and several special guests are hosting a campaign kick-off event, open to the public, at Red Hot & Blue restaurant from 3-5 p.m. this Sunday, March 13.
In addition, Silverthorne posted a personal 90-second video to his official Facebook page and to YouTube spelling out his intentions and touching upon some of the reasons he hopes local residents will once again check the box next to his name at election time this coming May.

"It has been my honor to serve as your mayor for the past four years," Silverthorne says in the video, included below, in which he also highlights a few of what he considers his biggest successes during his first two terms.
Those successes include the completion of the new town square in downtown, and new and returning special events like the Derby-Q and the Rock the Block live music series.

Silverthorne also mentions some recent high-profile accolades: Google named Fairfax City the "e-city" of Virginia thanks to its tech savviness, and Nerd Wallet placed it in the No. 2 slot on its list of best cities to start a business.
Silverthorne also pointed out a number of new businesses that have opened in the city over the past few years, including the large Lowe's store that opened just recently, bringing with it many new jobs.
"The mayor's job is to listen, learn and lead, and if I have the privilege to serve a third term as your mayor, I will continue the tradition of strong leadership at City Hall," Silverthorne says in his campaign video.
In other recent announcements, Silverthorne happily reported that his doctor declared him "cancer-free" at his most recent check-up. Silverthorne publicly shared in November that he had been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the neck.
"I thank all of you for your prayers and well wishes - it clearly helped," Silverthorne said on Facebook this week. "#TGIFairfax!"
