FAIRAX CITY, VA — This week is the perfect time for diners to check out that little bistro they've been wanting to try in the City of Fairfax. It's perfect not just because the COVID-19 restrictions have been loosened somewhat for restaurants, but it's also Restaurant Week 2021.

Around 30 city restaurants are offering special deals during Restaurant Week, which runs from Monday-Sunday, May 24-31. Customers can choose to dine-in at outdoor tables or takeout a three-course dinner available to-go for $35 per person, couple, or family. Lunch/brunch deals are also available for $20.

Customers will also be able to find deals at Fairfax City coffee shops and ice cream stores, business esthat aren't always found during Restaurant Week in other cities.

"We found a way to include them," said Chris Bruno, Fairfax City's director of economic development. "I think that's important, since we have such a diverse group of businesses that we really wanted to engage the entire culinary community."

Restaurant Week is a collaboration between the City of Fairfax, the Fairfax Economic Development Authority, and the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. The annual event was kicked off four years ago, when the city conducted an informal survey of businesses in the community.

"When we were doing that, we realized that we, as the city, we are a regional dining destination, but we didn't really promote ourselves as such," Bruno said.

The goal for the organizers was to solidify in people's minds the idea that the City of Fairfax is a dining destination.

"You really, as a diner, have the opportunity to experience all ends of the world," Bruno said. "I think Fairfax City gets lost in the mix, being here in the center of Fairfax County. But, I would stack up our restaurants against any of the restaurants in the metropolitan region, given the diversity and the selection here."

In addition, diners who order one of the fixed-price meals to-go will be eligible to receive a foldable picnic blanket from the EDA that celebrates Restaurant Week.

"You can bring your meal outdoors," Bruno said. "We're also opening our parks for outdoor dinners and lunches."
