Restaurant Complex To Displace Fairfax Surf Shop In Downtown
A new restaurant complex is coming to the heart of the city, replacing the Fairfax Surf Shop in downtown, the city's EDA has announced.
FAIRFAX, VA — A new restaurant complex is coming to the heart of the city, replacing the venerable Fairfax Surf Shop at 3936 Old Lee Highway, the city's Economic Development Authority announced this week. Namely, Fairfax has given the Parry Restaurant group rights to the city-owner property for the purposes of redevelopment.
The surf shop — which has operated since 1976 and also carries a wide line of skateboarding equipment and snow sports accessories — has been given a relocation-assistance grant by the EDA, which says the business could find a new location by the end of August.
Meanwhile, Aaron McDade, a Parry Restaurant Group partner, said in a release that, "We'll leverage our diverse portfolio in creating a unique atmosphere with fresh cuisine right in the heart of Old Town Square. The park will provide the perfect scene for the best outdoor dining in the city."

Added Fairfax City mayor David Meyer: "With the increasing popularity of Old Town Square — whether for concerts, family outings, special events and more — a dining destination with outdoor seating raises the bar for hospitality in the heart of Old Town. I know residents and others in the region will appreciate the new dining option and make a day or night of it in our beloved downtown."
Parry has not released details of its plans for the property but as Washington Business Journal points out, the company has 18 restaurants across the state, mostly in central and southwest Virginia. Nearby, Parry runs Oh George! Tables and Taphouse in an area shopping center, and Arosto Pizza in Vienna.
