I-66 Lane Closures, Traffic Stoppages To Disrupt New Week: VDOT

On the Monday after the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, drivers can expect overnight lane closures and periodic stoppages on I-66.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA — On the Monday after the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, drivers can expect overnight lane closures and periodic stoppages due to overhead gantry removal on eastbound I-66 between Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and Route 243 (Nutley Street), and west of Route 29 Centreville, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said Friday

On Dec. 3, eastbound I-66 between Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and Blake Lane, two right lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The work will cause periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry support removal.

The three eastbound lanes on I-66 between the Bull Run Rest Area and Cub Run will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Dec. 5. Drivers should expect periodic traffic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry support removal.

On Dec. 5-6, three right lanes will be closed for eastbound traffic on I-66 Between Bull Run Rest Area and Compton Road closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. VDOT warned of periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry support removal.

VDOT also warned that the ramp from I-66 west to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) north and south will be closed during the overnight hours of Dec. 2 through Dec. 4 between midnight and 4 a.m. Traffic will be detoured west to Route 50 east, stay to the left for I-66 east, then follow signs to Route 123 north or south.

The ramp closures are needed for utility relocation for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project, VDOT said.
