Learn About Fairfax City Composting At Center Anniversary
The special celebration for the City of Fairfax Composting Center is planned Sept. 28 from 1-3 p.m.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Local residents interested in learning more about composting will have an opportunity to do so at the one-year anniversary party for the City of Fairfax Composting Center. The event is planned Sept. 28 from 1-3 p.m. at the center, which is located next to City Hall at 10455 Armstrong St.
According to the City of Fairfax, as much as a quarter of the city’s residential waste is organic material that can be composted. By composting, residents can turn what would otherwise end up completely wasted into a valuable, nutrient-rich compost that can be used as fertilizer.
The city’s composting center is part of a year-long pilot program where those who live and work in Fairfax City are invited to drop off food scraps in the composting carts at the center, which is open 24 hours.
