Northern Virginia Weather: Good Start to Work Week

STERLING, VA — Following a weekend that was, for the most part, pretty darn pleasant, the work week presents slightly cooler temperatures but continued showings of sun. That's the word from the National Weather Service and its area branch in Sterling. Precipitation looms, however, later in the week.

Remember, although it hasn't felt like it the past couple of days with temperatures in the 80s, and then some, it's still late April; rather, early May. In other words, regular summer isn't here yet. And later in the week. we're expected to be reminded of that.

Here's the latest forecast for our area from the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind around 9 mph.

Monday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 3am, then a slight chance of showers. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 61. Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 71.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers after 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 53. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: Showers likely, mainly after 9am. Cloudy, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
