STERLING, VA—After a continued chilly, drizzly and mostly cloudy Monday, Northern Virginia's work-week weather forecast predicts a span that keeps getting better and better until we head toward a mighty fine-looking weekend. That's the word from the National Weather Service and other area forecasting outlets.

Tuesday will be something of a wild card, with temperatures unseasonably crisp but with snippets of sunshine. And Wednesday? There's this, per the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: "High pressure returns, and with it so does the sun! Hallelujah! Mostly sunny skies gradually remove the morning chill, with afternoon highs heading for the upper 60s to 70s, setting the stage for a warmer second half of the week."

Monday: Showers likely with patchy drizzle before 9am, then showers likely after 9am. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 61. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 62. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Northwest wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 70.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers after 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
