Overnight Closures On I-66 West Coming From VDOT
VDOT will be closing all lanes of I-66 West overnight this week to allow for construction on the Route 50 overpass.

FAIRFAX, VA — All lanes of Interstate 66 West at Route 50 in the Fair Oaks area will be closed overnight this week to allow the Virginia Department of Transportation to install bridge beams for the new Route 50 West Bridge over I-66, according to a release. In addition, the I-66 West ramps to and from Route 50 will be closed as well.
The closures will be in effect from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday and Friday. Roads and ramps will reopen to traffic at 5:30 a.m.
VDOT will be detouring traffic onto Route 50 and West Ox Road to help motorists travel around the closures. Motorists are urged to find alternate routes to avoid travel delays.

VDOT is rebuilding the I-66/Route 50 Interchange in order to add express lane access to and from the east. Last month, VDOT lifted new beams for the new Route 50 East bridge.
The work on the Route 50 Interchange is part of VDOT's Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Construction and demolition is expected to continue through 2022, with all the new bridges over I-66 scheduled to be open to traffic later this year.
