The road closure will be in effect for several hours Friday evening to accommodate Fairfax City's Rock the Block event.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Fairfax City motorists, be aware — University Avenue between Route 236 and Main and North streets will close Friday evening for Rock the Block, the city’s free summer concert series and block party held in Old Town Square.

In addition to motorists finding an alternative route, CUE Bus route detours will be in place during this time:

  • Green 1 will detour through Locust Street and Sager Avenue.
  • Green 2, Gold 1 and Gold 2 will detour through Sager Avenue and East Street.
  • All CUE Bus routes stop near Rock the Block, and buses continue to run after the event ends.

According to the city, bicycles, scooters and similar vehicles may be ridden to the event, but must be walked through the event area or parked on the perimeter. Visit Fairfax City’s Cycling in the City web page for bike trail information, and review city maps for alternate routes around the event area.
