Max: The Providence opened on March 1st! We are new to the community and welcome anyone interested to reach out and schedule a tour.

My mom has worked in the healthcare industry for over 30 years now. Growing up, my mom brought me along with her to work every weekend from birth up until I turned 16; I was able to get my first job working as a receptionist in the same senior living community.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

Max: To make aging fun!

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?

Max: The biggest challenge for me is the stigma that senior living communities face, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. I work with many families who have not had the opportunity to research what assisted living truly is, or what memory care truly is. Many have an idea of what they think assisted living and memory care is, but that idea is stuck in the 1970s. Assisted Living is NOT a nursing home; it is NOT a “facility” or “institution.” Assisted Living is a chance to enjoy life and age gracefully.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

Max: I love, love, love the impact I get to have on families and their loved ones. Families are typically very nervous when their loved one transitions into communal living, but once the new member begins making friends, going to different classes, and enjoying all of the amenities, the whole transition becomes life-changing, and it is such a beautiful thing to be a part of. In my 10 years in the senior living industry, I have not once heard a resident or family member say they regret making a move into a community.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?

Max: The Providence is part of The Élite Collection, a curated collection of senior living communities brought forth by Silverstone Senior Living and Watermark Retirement Communities. The Élite Collection was created to shape a new model and change the way people think about assisted living by introducing boutique senior living communities rooted in hospitality and integrated wellness offering impeccable service, innovative care and pioneering programming following a mantra that focuses on renewal, rather than retirement.

At The Providence, our highly trained associates provide custom care, personal assistance and award-winning programming like Watermark University and EngageVR. Watermark University provides an opportunity for residents, associates and family members to continue learning, growing and achieving wellness with customized courses based on personal passions, experiences and areas of interest. EngageVR offers a virtual reality exercise that keeps the brain active while providing uplifting and educational experiences.

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?

Max: Authenticity is the key to success. I love what Craig Groeschel says about leadership and authenticity: “People would rather follow a leader who is always real than one who is always right.”

Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about? If so, what details can you share and what makes it so exciting?

Max: Personally, I am working on two exciting projects right now.

1. I am currently attending Virginia Tech and working towards a Master’s degree in Gerontology. I love serving the aging population and I want to continue educating myself on all aspects of how we age.

2. I am just about finished publishing my first book! I wrote a children’s book about Alzheimer’s disease and it is scheduled to be released this spring!

Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community? If so, tell us about them.

Max: The Providence is hosting an open house on Friday, April 16th and Saturday, April 17th from 11AM – 3PM. We’re calling it a “taste & tour”: sip mimosas and savor gourmet brunch bites prepared by our classically trained chef while you tour our wellness center, luxury spa, state-of-the-art fitness center, art studio and signature restaurants — Wolf Trap Bistro & Lounge and farm-to-table Great Falls.

Please RSVP by April 12 by calling 571-396-0500 or by email at amax@watermarkcommunities.com.
We care about your safety. All COVID-protective protocols will be followed.
We’d love to see you there!
