Route 123 Traffic Detours In Fairfax Coming In Early February
Fairfax City is building a new continuous pedestrian path on the west side of Chain Bridge Road, causing traffic detours.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Contractors for the City of Fairfax have scheduled a storm pipe installation Feb. 5-6 along Chain Bridge Road in the downtown area as part of a sidewalk improvement project. The work will affect access to Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) in what is known as the Rust Curve sidewalk project area, where the road takes motorists up a winding hill into downtown Fairfax, the city said.
The following detours will be implemented Feb. 5-6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: southbound traffic will be detoured to University Drive via Kenmore Drive, then back to Route 123 via Whitehead Street; and northbound traffic will follow the current detour route.
During this time, a CUE Bus detour will be in effect. Southbound Green 2 buses will detour on Kenmore Drive, University Drive and Whitehead Street. Green 1 buses will follow the current northbound detour.
