Thanksgiving 2019: What's Open, Closed In Fairfax City
Train routes, schools and government offices may be impacted by the 2019 Thanksgiving holiday in and around Fairfax City.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — While closures are a given for most services on Thanksgiving, Fairfax City residents should also be aware of closures on surrounding days like Black Friday. Government offices, libraries and other services will be closed for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, while services like the post office will operate on Black Friday.
Here are the openings and closings to know on and around Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving) and Friday, Nov. 29 (Black Friday).
Fairfax City Offices: City government offices will closed Nov. 28-29.

Fairfax Schools: Schools will be closed Nov. 27-29.
Post office and mail: Post offices will be closed Nov. 28, and no mail will be delivered. Normal services resume on Black Friday.

Local and state courts: Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will closed at 12 p.m. Nov. 27 and remain closed through Nov. 29.

Black Friday 2019 Sales, When Stores Open Around Fairfax City
CUE Bus: Buses will not run on Thanksgiving. Service on Black Friday will run on a modified weekday schedule.
Metrorail: On Nov. 28, the Metro system will be open 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and operate on a Sunday schedule. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.
Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Nov. 28. See bus timetables.
Historic Sites and Museums: The Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center will be closed Thanksgiving Day.
Libraries: The City of Fairfax Regional Library will be closed Nov. 28-29.
Trash Collection: City trash pickup will not run on Thursday, Nov. 28. Thursday and Friday routes will be picked up on Friday. Other municipal and private haulers may work on a different schedule.
Landfills/Recycling: The Property Yard Recycling Center, I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill will be closed Thanksgiving Day. All facilities will reopen Friday.
Grocery Stores: Wegman's will close at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, and will reopen at 6 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29. Safeway is open until 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Walmart will be open normal hours for grocery shoppers on Thanksgiving, but check with stores for variation.
