See what's going on this week in the Fairfax area.

Free Show for the Kids on Monday. Bring the little ones to Old Town Hall in Fairfax City for a free performance by one-man band, Peter McCory. McCory is a sight to see—while strumming guitar, he is also playing harmonicas, kazoos and whistles. Then, with his feet he plays drums, cymbals, cow bell and other percussion instruments. And, on top of his own self-contained back-up band, he sings, whistles, yodels and scats. And he does all this at the same time, without any help from any electronic or computer-controlled instruments. This Monday, Nov. 18, 10:30 a.m. Old Town Hall, 3999 University Dr., Fairfax City.

Want to Learn to Be a 'Storm Spotter?' The City of Fairfax Police Department is hosting a free class Monday evening for individuals interested in becoming SKYWARN Storm Spotters. This training is available to City of Fairfax residents and employees interested in reporting severe weather to enable the National Weather Service (NWS) to provide timely and accurate weather warnings to the public. The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many Americans. To obtain critical weather information, NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS), part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, established SKYWARN with partner organizations. SKYWARN is a volunteer program with nearly 290,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service. There is no prerequisite or fee to participate. Police Dept., 3730 Old Lee Hwy., Fairfax. This Monday, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact oem@fairfaxva.gov.
