What's Open, Closed For Labor Day 2020 In Fairfax City
As the unofficial end of summer approaches, here are the service changes to know for the Labor Day holiday.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Summer may have looked different this year because of the pandemic, but Labor Day is still the time to bid the season farewell before pools close and kids start classes. In Fairfax City, there are various closings and schedule changes to know for the holiday.
On Monday, Sept. 7, Fairfax City government offices will be closed to observe Labor Day. Students at Fairfax City and Fairfax County Public Schools will begin the school year in a virtual format the next day, Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Fairfax City offices: Closed on Monday, Sept. 7.
Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Monday, Sept. 7.

City of Fairfax Schools: Sept. 7 is an observed holiday. The first day of school (100-percent virtual) is Tuesday, Sept. 8.
CUE Bus: The bus service will on a Saturday schedule on Monday, Sept. 7.
Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Sept. 7. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector for more information.
City of Fairfax Animal Shelter: Closed on Monday, Sept. 7. Call 703-385-7919 to make an appointment.
Fairfax County Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter remains open by appointment only.
Community Centers: The Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center remains closed until further notice due to the coronavirus.
Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center: The museum and visitor center will be open on Monday, Sept. 7.
Refuse and Recycling: Refuse and recycling will not be collected on Monday, Sept. 7. Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Libraries: All Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed on Monday, Sept. 7.
Metrorail: Metrorail operates from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Labor Day.
Metrobus: Metrobus runs on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day. See bus schedules here.
Post offices: U.S. Postal Service offices are closed on Monday, Sept. 7.
Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not provide service on Labor Day.
