DAR American History Essay Contest
Anna Maria Fitzhugh Chapter NSDAR presented the DAR American History Bronze Medal to David Glover-Barr
As part of its mission to support the study of American History, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors a history essay contest for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders each year. On January 14, 2020, Anna Maria Fitzhugh Chapter NSDAR of Springfield presented certificates to the 7th grade history class at Browne Academy in Alexandria. The students wrote essays on "The Voyage of the Mayflower." This year is the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower. Students were asked to imagine being a Mayflower passenger in 1620 and to consider what they would take to prepare for the voyage and a new life in the wilderness. The winner of the essay contest was David Glover-Barr who received the DAR American History Bronze Medal and winner's certificate. David is the son of USAF Senior Master Sergeant and Mrs. Barr. Congratulations to David for his outstanding essay!
