Ex-Youth Hockey Coach Sentenced for Child Pornography Offenses

FAIRFAX STATION, VA: A former youth hockey coach with the Washington Little Capitals was sentenced to 50 months for child pornography offenses, including soliciting an undercover investigator posing as a 12-year-old boy.

Timothy Bodenheimer, 28, of Fairfax Station, was sentenced on Dec. 11, 2015 to 50 months in prison, and 20 years active probation for the solicitation of an undercover investigator posing as a 12-year-old boy and distribution and possession of child pornography, according to an announcement by the Office of the Attorney General Mark R. Herring after the sentencing hearing before Circuit Court Judge Jan L. Brodie.

“Those who rob children of their innocence through sexual solicitation and distribution and ownership of child pornography need to know that with every click on a photo of an exploited child, that child is re-victimized and they are forced to relive trauma,” said Attorney General Mark R. Herring. “I am pleased that justice has been served and grateful for the collaboration between my office and the police officers who work tirelessly to track down these offenders.”

According to court records and evidence presented at the plea hearing, a concerned father contacted law enforcement officers after his child was solicited online.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, Bodenheimer solicited an undercover investigator, posing as a 12-year-old boy. Bodenheimer sent the undercover investigator images of child pornography, and asked for nude pictures in return.

Investigators subsequently executed a search warrant at Bodenheimer’s residence in Fairfax Station and recovered over a thousand images of child pornography. Investigators recovered thousands more images of child pornography belonging to Bodenheimer from a residence in Loudoun County.

Bodenheimer pleaded guilty on September 28, 2015 to one count of use of a communication system to solicit a minor; one count of distribution of child pornography; and eight counts of Possession of Child Pornography. Bodenheimer was sentenced to 5 years in prison with 4 years and 7 months suspended for the use of a communication system to solicit a minor count; 5 years in prison with 4 years and 7 months suspended for distribution of child pornography count; and 5 years in prison with 4 years and 7 months suspended for each of the possession of child pornography counts. His total active sentence is 50 months. He was also placed on active probation for 20 years following his release from prison.

This case was investigated by the Northern Virginia-Washington, D.C. Internet Crimes Against Children (NOVA-DC ICAC) Task Force. Assistant Attorneys General Marc J. Birnbaum and Stacey Rohrs of the Virginia Attorney General’s Office prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth, according to the announcement.
