Mittendorff went missing April 13 and her remains were found last Thursday in Shenandoah National Park. Police say Mittendorff left a note in her car parked nearby. Nancy Bull, administrator of the northern Virginia office of the state medical examiner, said Friday that Mittendorff, of Woodbridge, killed herself, FOX-5 reported. The office released no other details.
The fire chief for Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said he plans to investigate whether cyber bullying played a role in Mittendorff's death, after disparaging messages about her were posted on a local online forum.
