Fairfax Station Teen Dies in Fatal Crash in Springfield Area: Police

Police say teen lost control of car and struck several trees late Friday night on Franconia Springfield Parkway near I-95.

A Fairfax Station teen has died after losing control of a car he was driving late Friday night, according to Fairfax County Police.

Police say the deceased is Laween A. Akrawi, 18, of Fairfax Station, died at the scene, according to police. A passenger, a 17-year-old juvenile from the Springfield area, was transported to Fairfax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers responded to the area of the Franconia Springfield Parkway and I-95 on Friday, shortly after 11 p.m. for a report of a single vehicle crash, Fairfax County Police said in a news release Saturday. The initial investigation determined that an 18-year-old man was driving a BMW 3-Series on the westbound lanes of the Franconia Springfield Parkway, lost control and traveled off the right side of the roadway striking multiple trees, police said.

Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, according to police.
