FAIRFAX STATION, VA — Coronavirus cases continue to drop across the country while the number of those who are fully vaccinated continues to rise, which means there is even more reason to celebrate this Independence Day. July 4 is almost here, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you.

We have all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Fairfax Station so you can start planning now.

What: Fairfax Independence Day Parade

Where: The parade starts from 4100 Chain Bridge Road and continues, rain or shine, around downtown Fairfax, along Chain Bridge Road, Main Street, University Drive and Armstrong Street.

When: Saturday, July 3, at 10 a.m.

The City of Fairfax kicks off its 55th Annual Independence Day celebration with a parade on Saturday morning Old Town. This year's parade includes nine high school marching bands and inflatable parade balloons, as well as floats and clowns.

Commemorative 4th of July T-Shirts will be on sale Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., on the steps of City Hall. The theme of this year's T-Shirt is "One Flag. One Hand. One Heart." Shirts are priced at $5/youth and $10/adult, while supplies last. Commemorative baseball caps will also be available for $10.


What: Independence Day Evening Show & Fireworks

Where: Fairfax High School at 3501 Lion Run, in Fairfax City.

When: On-stage entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m., on Sunday, July 4. In case of rain, the only the fireworks will be presented on Monday, July 5.

Enjoy an evening of music and dancing followed by fireworks at Fairfax High School stadium.

Due to COVID-19 restoration, there will be no children's activities this year. Items that may puncture synthetic turf are not permitted on the football field. In addition, smoking, alcohol, and animals, with the exception of services animals, are prohibited on the football field.


What: Vienna Fourth of July Fireworks

Where: Yeonas Park, 1319 Ross Drive SW, Vienna, VA

When: Sunday, July 4, park opens at 7 p.m., fireworks at dark (around 9:30 p.m.)

Fireworks will be held at dark with preceding festivities. Big Bad JuJu will provide live music. Guests are asked to wear a face mask if they're not vaccinated. Social distancing is encouraged. Alcohol, chairs, glass containers and pets are not permitted at the event.

The other Fourth of July event, Sprinklers & Sparklers, is canceled in 2021.

Vienna's fireworks celebration is back at Yeonas Park after a 2020 cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While Yeonas Park is owned by the Vienna Little League, the town is permitted to use it for July 4 festivities.

"We love supporting the town, and we get a chance to give it back to them," Mike Jreige, president of Vienna Little League, told Patch.


What: Herndon 4th of July Fireworks

Where: Fireworks will be launched from Herndon Centennial Golf Course. Viewing is available at Bready Park, which is located at 814 Ferndale Ave.

When: Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m., on Sunday, July 4. Access to seating and parking at Beady Park will open at 8 p.m.

The Town of Herndon will once again be celebrating the 4th of July with fireworks, after canceling last year's event due to COVID-19 restrictions. No food concessions or entertainment are planned for this year's celebration.

Those coming to Bready Park are encouraged to maintain physical distancing during the fireworks and to wear a mask if they have not been vaccinated for COVID-19. All bags and coolers may be searched. No alcohol, glass containers, or personal fireworks, including sparklers, are permitted.

Motorists should expect road closures and detours throughout the Town of Herndon. Police will be closing Ferndale Avenue to through traffic from Vine Street to Barton Oaks Place once the parking lots are filled. The roads will stay closed until after the completion of the fireworks.

Alternate parking areas include Herndon Middle School, Herndon Centennial Golf Course, and the Station Street Municipal lot. Access to the golf course is restricted from 8-10:30 p.m., on July 4, on the order of the fire marshal.


What: Lake Fairfax Park Fireworks

Where: Fireworks return to Lake Fairfax Park, which is located at 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive in Reston.

When: The fireworks will be launched shortly after 9 p.m., on Saturday, July 3. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 8 p.m., so that they will have time to park and find a place to view the fireworks.

Lake Fairfax Park will once again be hosting an Independence Day fireworks show, after canceling last year's event due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year, the event will take place on Saturday, July 3.

Advance tickets for the fireworks show are available for purchase online for $10 pe car through 11:59 p.m., on Friday, July 2. Day-of tickets may be purchased for $15 per car at the park.
For those wishing to make a day of it, Lake Fairfax Park will open at sunrise on Saturday, July 3, with various food trucks providing food and beverage throughout the day.

Visitors can take a dip in the Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole, which will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Since tickets for the water park typically sell out by 12 p.m., visitors are encouraged to buy tickets in advance.


What: McLean July 4th Drive-Thru Ice Cream Celebration

This drive-thru event includes music, free ice cream, patriotic giveaways, and more. Admission is free, but registration is required. The event is only open to McLean Community Center district residents.

Where: McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean, VA

When: Sunday, July 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.


What: Great Falls 4th of July Hometown Celebration

The Great Falls 4th of July celebration includes a day packed with events. The day kicks off with a 5K Walk/Run at 8 a.m., followed by an Inova Blood Drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Little Patriot Parade at 9 a.m. will precede the main parade at 10 a.m. Afterward, enjoy lemonade, pizza, snow-cones, and other treats, as well as music, games, and festivities on the Village Centre Green.

Then head over to Turner Farm Park starting at 6 p.m. for live music, games, contests and food trucks until fireworks begin at dusk.

Where: Celebration and parade at Great Falls Village Centre, 776 Walker Road, Great Falls, VA; Evening fireworks at Turner Farm Park, 925 Springvale Road, Great Falls, VA

When: Sunday, July 4, celebration and parade from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; evening fireworks at dusk with gates opening at 6 p.m.


Workhouse Arts Center Fireworks

This choreographed display will delight spectators in the region's largest pre-July 4 fireworks. Preceding the fireworks is live entertainment from U.S. Navy Band and DJ Nose. Another special surprise will occur between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. A drive-in tailgate will also include appearances from Uncle Sam and Julia the Balloon Twister, art demos and a performance by the Great Zucchini. Tickets are limited, and the event is expected to sell out.Where: Workhouse Arts Center Campus, 9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton VA


What: Fireworks at Cafe 44

Cafe 44 on the waterfront will offer views of the fireworks. Reservations are required for the Balcony and Bar 44.

Where: Cafe 44, 44 Canal Center Plaza Suite 401, Alexandria, VA

When: Saturday, July 10, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.


What: Fireworks on the National Mall in D.C.

Where: Fireworks will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

When: The 17-minute display will be held on Sunday, July 4 starting at 9:09 p.m.

To celebrate progress made in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, President Joe Biden is planning to celebrate the July Fourth holiday as “a summer of freedom.” He will be hosting 1,000 medical workers, first responders, essential workers and military members on the South Lawn of the White House for the National Mall fireworks.

The National Park Service said that consistent with CDC guidelines, people who are not fully vaccinated must wear masks indoors and in crowded outdoor spaces on the National Mall. Masks are required for everyone on all forms of public transportation. All the memorials, except the Washington Monument, will be open.

People visiting the National Mall for the fireworks should practice social or physical distancing, staying at least six feet away from others who are not a member of your household, according to the NPS.


What: 41st annual Capitol Fourth concert

Where: The concert will be re-recorded.

When: The 17-minute display will be held on Sunday, July 4 starting at 9:09 p.m.

The 41st annual Capitol Fourth concert on PBS will be pre-recorded, with singer and actress Vanessa Williams serving as host of the event from D.C. The concert will include pre-recorded performances across the country by Jimmy Buffett, Gladys Knight, Alan Jackson, Jennifer Nettles, Renée Fleming and many other artists.

The National Symphony Orchestra will perform John Williams’ inspiring composition “Olympic Fanfare” in tribute to Team USA, honoring the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams as they prepare for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Capping off the concert broadcast on PBS will be live coverage of the fireworks display on the National Mall captured by multiple cameras stationed around the city.
