The Giving Circle of Heritage Hunt Awards Grant To Local Charity
Assistance League of Northern Virginia Will Use Funds to Provide Food For Local Families
Assistance League of Northern Virginia is extremely gratified to have been awarded a generous grant from The Giving Circle of Heritage Hunt, Gainesville, VA, in support of its efforts to reduce food insecurity in the community. In March, the nonprofit suspended its Weekend Food for Kids program, through which it distributed 1800 bags of nonperishable food each month to needy children at six elementary schools in the region. The bags provide 4 meals and snack items for low-income students to take home on weekends when school meals are not available. Because of its commitment to address childhood hunger, the charity began providing $20 food gift cards to the families of students at the elementary schools that could distribute them, in lieu of the weekend food bags. Assistance League has continued that effort each month since April. The grant from The Giving Circle will fund the purchase of food gift cards for families of students at three elementary schools in Prince William County.
Assistance League of Northern Virginia has benefitted from the considerable support of The Giving Circle each year since 2017, and the grants awarded in the 3 previous years have been used to fund its Weekend Food and New Clothing for Kids programs. The organization greatly appreciates its continuing partnership with The Giving Circle and the generosity of the residents of Heritage Hunt.
Pat Thompson, Grants Chair, received the award on behalf of Assistance League from Ric Perez, Chairman of the Board, and Frank Cartwright, Treasurer, The Giving Circle of Heritage Hunt.
