Herrity Says 'No' to Pay Raise Idea for Supervisors
Board member chastises fellow supervisors: "Residents don't have the luxury of raising their salaries to pay for Board member raises."

At today’s Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ meeting, the Board voted 8-2 in favor of advertising a public hearing at the next Board meeting on Jan. 27, according to a news release from Supervisor Pat Herrity’s office.
Herrity represents the Springfield District, which includes Fairfax Station, Clifton and Burke, on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
The public hearing will advertise that the next Board of Supervisors receive an annual salary of $95,000 ($100,000 for the Chairman), compared to their current compensation of $75,000. Herrity (R – Springfield) voted against the motion.

Herrity issued the following statement:
“The failed policies of this Board have led to a 14% tax increase on our residents over the least 3 years, a commercial vacancy rate hovering at 19% which is the highest in a quarter of a century, a budget shortfall surpassing $160 million this year alone, and just today a letter to the bond rating agencies urging them to keep our AAA bond rating intact; and they want to reward themselves with a pay increase?

I cannot support even looking at raising our salaries. Our residents don’t have the luxury of raising their salaries to pay for Board member raises.”
