Missing Firefighter: Fairfax County to Send 30 Search + Rescue to Help Find Nicole Mittendorff

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue will send searchers this weekend to Shenandoah National Park to help in search for Nicole Mittendorff.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County plans to send 30 personnel this weekend to help search for missing firefighter/paramedic Nicole Mittendorff, a 31-year old, three-year veteran with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, who was reported missing last Friday, April 15.

The National Park Service has requested search assistance from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, 30 experienced and trained search and rescue personnel will assist in conducting a wide area search in the Shenandoah National Park.

Mittendorff's 2009 Mini Cooper was found abandoned near the White Oak Canyon Trail, close to Old Rag, shortly before 8 p.m. the next day in in Shenandoah National Park. Nicole is 5’6”, approximately 125 lbs with blonde hair and green eyes. Mittendorff called in sick to her job April 13.

A vigil was held Wednesday night at a Fairfax County fire station in Fairfax Station. "Sweetheart, I love you," Mittendorff's husband Steve, said. "I am praying for you. I'm not sure where you are but know that we are all looking for you. And I look forward to your safe return."
